Proper maintenance keeps your batteries performing their best — and saves you money in the long run. At Discount Battery, we’re here to help you get the maximum lifespan and reliability out of your batteries, whether they power your golf cart, vehicle, or boat/RV system.
Check water levels regularly — never let the plates go dry.
Inspect cables to ensure they are tight, clean, and corrosion-free.
Apply corrosion prevention spray monthly.
Use distilled water only when refilling.
💡 Tip: Water level should just cover the plates and reach the bottom of the fill neck
— not overfilled or dry.
Avoid overcharging or undercharging — both can damage the plates.
Ideal charge cycles:
- For golfers: charge after every round of 18 holes.
- For casual use: charge every 3–4 days or when the charge drops to 50–60%.
Do not plug in after every short use — constant topping off can shorten lifespan.
Overcharging will cause batteries to boil, reducing life expectancy dramatically.
💡 Tip: Water level should just cover the plates and reach the bottom of the fill neck — not overfilled or dry.
1. Before leaving, fully charge your batteries and fill with distilled water.
2. Put your golf cart in Tow mode and disconnect the main negative cable.
3. Ask a neighbor or friend to charge the cart once per month if possible.
⚠️ Never leave chargers running unattended for weeks or months.
Lightning strikes and power surges are common in SWFL — and unattended charging can boil out water or damage electrical systems.
Have your alternator tested regularly to ensure it’s charging correctly.
Visit Discount Battery or your trusted mechanic for a quick checkup.
For long-term storage, remove the main negative cable to prevent parasitic drain.
Consult your marine mechanic or RV technician to verify all systems are functioning correctly.
Ensure chargers are set to the correct algorithm for your battery chemistry (AGM, Flooded, Lithium, etc.).
Regularly inspect cables and terminals for corrosion or loose connections.

Includes a full general diagnosis and inspection of your golf cart.
In most cases, we can complete repairs right on the spot.
